My friends and I like to get away for the weekend to Sonoma. We prefer Sonoma over Napa because it has a much more laid back vibe but still has amazing AFORDABLE wines. Each trip we find a winery and a restaurant we have never tried. This trip took us to Karah Estates Winery. This is a small boutique winery just off the 101 in a town called Cotati. They have a great tasting room and a fantastic patio and they allow you to bring your own picnic as well.

We did a tasting of all the current offerings and enjoyed them all but there were two stand outs. The 2017 Estate Reserve Pino Noir and the 2018 Estate Chardonnay. The Pino Noir started robust with dark fruit like plum and black cherry and finished with light acidity spicy notes of pepper. I could easily drink this on its own or with food and at $30 bottle it is a deal.
The Chardonnay was a perfect balance of apples, citrus and floral and just a touch of minerals and oak. The price was on the higher end for a Chardonnay in Sonoma $30, but the winemaker go this one right and it is well worth the price.
For the restaurant we picked Kancha, a Peruvian Tapas and Champagne bar in downtown Santa Rosa. They had only been open for 6 months so there were not a lot of reviews but we all love champagne and I love Peruvian food so we thought we would give it a try.
The food was amazing! We ordered classic ceviche with sweet potato chips, Hokkaido scallops, Quinoa Caprese Salad and empanadas. The Champagne flights were so much fun. We got to taste 12 different Champagne’s from around the world!
